Domestic Adoption

Domestic adoption can come in many different ways: a private placement, a direct placement, an agency placement, a step-parent adoption, a relative adoption, a guardianship adoption and in other ways. The 1:17 Center for Global Adoption has extensive experience in each of these types of adoptions and can assist you in navigating through a process that can be both challenging and rewarding.

Private Placement

The 1:17 Center for Global Adoption can assist families who have privately connected with birth parents to complete their adoptions in a highly skilled and affordable manner. Our staff and attorneys have been providing these services for more than 16 years and have handled more than 200 separate adoption matters. The 1:17 Center for Global Adoption has the skill and experience to assist you in navigating through the process of a private placement domestic adoption.

Agency Assisted Adoptions

An agency assisted adoption involves birth parents who come to an agency seeking adoptive parents for their child. The 1:17 Center for Global Adoption partners with other ministries and organizations that assist birth parents who are contemplating adoption so that a connection may be made and an adoption plan can be put in place. In addition to the work necessary to form and complete an adoption plan, the 1:17 Center for Global Adoption provides counseling services to birth parents contemplating placing their child for adoption and to prospective adoptive parents seeking more information about the process of adoption.

Domestic Adoption Process Overview

A domestic adoption may involve a new born child or a child of any age. First, an adoption plan is formed between birth or legal parents and home-study approved prospective adoptive parents. A temporary placement of the child is then made in the home of the prospective adoptive parents and the legal process is begun. After the Court enters the necessary orders to effect the adoption, there is a period of post-placement supervision that generally requires 2 or 3 home visits after which the final Order of Adoption is entered. This usually occurs within 6 months after the child is placed in the adoptive home.

The 1:17 Center for Global Adoption welcomes both married couples and singles to our domestic adoption program. There are no age restrictions for the prospective adoptive parents.

Please feel free to contact the 1:17 Center for Global Adoption to discuss the prospect of a domestic adoption in more detail.
